Why Choose HG Cut Cerium Oxide?

HG Cut Optical Grade Cerium Oxide is suited to polishing jobs where clarity, smoothness and a refined finish matter. Its high cerium oxide purity and fine particle size make it an excellent choice for precision polishing applications.

This product is ideal for users wanting a premium-grade polishing powder that delivers a clean finish while maintaining good consistency in slurry behaviour and polishing performance.

0.3-0.7 micron
This is the median particle size:

  • a smoother polishing action
  • better clarity and finish
  • reduced risk of coarse scratching
  • suitability for finer finishing and more delicate polishing work

Best For

  • Glass polishing and final finishing
  • Optical-grade polishing applications
  • Scratch and haze reduction
  • Surface clarity improvement
  • Lapidary and hard-surface finishing work

Key Features

  • High cerium oxide purity
  • Fine particle distribution
  • Controlled top particle size
  • Water-slurry compatible
  • Consistent polishing performance

How To Use With A Variable Speed Polishing Machine

  1. Mix the cerium oxide powder into clean water to create a thin slurry.
  2. Clean the work surface thoroughly before polishing.
  3. Apply the slurry to the polishing pad or to the surface being polished.
  4. Polish using steady, even movements.
  5. Keep the surface cool and wet during use.
  6. Inspect the finish and repeat if needed.
  7. Clean the surface and pad after polishing is complete.

Technical Information

HG Cut
“HG Cut” A product designed to offer a polishing action with a controlled level of cut.

Physical appearance: Light yellow coloured powder
A light yellow cerium oxide powder is common in polishing applications. The colour itself is mainly an identifier, but it also signals this is a refined polishing-grade material rather than a coarse abrasive.

Total TREO: >98.0%
TREO means Total Rare Earth Oxides. A result above 98% indicates a very high rare-earth content overall, which generally reflects a more refined and purer polishing powder.

CeO2/TREO (Mathematical): >99.0%
This is one of the strongest indicators of quality in the certificate. It means that the rare-earth portion is made up almost entirely of cerium oxide, which is the active polishing ingredient. In simple terms, it points to a very high-purity cerium-based polishing powder.

D50: 0.3-0.7 micron
This is the median particle size, and it is much finer than the Page 1 product. A D50 this fine usually suggests:

  • a smoother polishing action
  • better clarity and finish
  • reduced risk of coarse scratching
  • suitability for finer finishing and more delicate polishing work

A finer finishing grade.

D97: 1.5-6.0 micron
This tells you the larger particles are still controlled. That matters because oversized particles can create inconsistency, haze, or unexpected marking. Keeping the top end restrained usually helps produce a more even finish.

Tapped density: 1.7-1.9 g/ml
This gives an idea of how the powder settles and packs. In practical use, it can influence:

  • how it scoops and stores
  • how it mixes into slurry
  • how quickly it settles when left standing

pH: Complies HPH
The result indicates it complies with the higher pH band suggests a mildly alkaline polishing slurry, which is normal in many cerium oxide polishing products.

Suspension: YES
This is important for actual use. It suggests the powder can be mixed into water and remain workable as a slurry instead of immediately dropping out. That helps with more even polishing performance.

Odourless
A straightforward but useful property for workshop use.

Average stock removal: ±10% of standard validation
This suggests the cutting performance is being kept within a tight tolerance.
