Using a Buffing Wheel Rake: A buffing wheel rake serves to tidy the edge of an Airway Buffing Wheel while it’s in motion on either a pedestal machine or a right-angle machine. The buffing wheel should maintain its standard rotation speed, and the rake should be held firmly as it approaches the buffs on any stationary bench grinder or portable tool. Always proceed with caution when raking. We suggest securing the rake with your feet to the ground and bringing the machine and buff to the rake to eliminate compound buildup and soften edges. Please note that currently, due to a timber shortage, our mop rakes are being crafted with a plywood-based handle.
When to Rake a Buff: Excessive Metal Polishing Compound application on the buffing wheel can cause it to harden and adhere to the buff’s edge. This diminishes the buffing wheel’s effectiveness and the quality of finish it produces. The rake is employed to eliminate this compound buildup. If you observe a notable increase in residual aluminum particle buildup while buffing, it’s time to rake the buff and reapply a small amount of compound.
