Swansdown Finishing Wheel – 100mm (4″), Two Section provides a soft working face for the colouring and final-lustre stages of metal polishing. The swansdown construction is intended for the lightest polishing stage, helping a suitable finishing compound develop brightness on a correctly prepared surface.
Finishing role and applications
Use after abrasive preparation, cutting and refining stages have removed scratches and process marks. Suitable applications may include aluminium, brass, copper, stainless steel, mild steel, precious metals and other compatible surfaces when paired with a finishing compound appropriate to the material.
Compound and process guidance
- Use a fine colouring or finishing compound rather than a coarse cutting compound.
- Apply small amounts and use light pressure; excess compound or pressure can create heat and residue.
- Do not expect a soft wheel to remove deep scratches—return to the correct preparation stage if marks remain.
- Keep the wheel dedicated to one compound and metal group to protect the final finish.

Swansdown is selected for colouring and lustre after cutting marks have been removed. Single-section wheels maximise access; two-section wheels provide a broader face. Semi-swansdown offers slightly more body and control. Dedicate each wheel to one fine compound and compatible metal group.
Machine compatibility
Use only on a compatible bench polisher, converted bench grinder or polishing machine with the correct spindle, centre, adaptor, guards and retaining hardware. Confirm available clearance, rotation and rated speed before use.
How to use
- Inspect and mount the wheel with the machine isolated.
- Run briefly without load while standing clear of the rotation plane.
- Charge sparingly with the selected fine finishing compound.
- Use light pressure and keep the work moving to manage heat and maintain an even lustre.
- Clean or dress the face when contaminated and stop if vibration or damage occurs.
Safety
Wear appropriate eye, face, hearing and respiratory protection. Secure small components, wear close-fitting clothing, tie back hair, remove jewellery and keep snagging items away from the rotating wheel. Follow the machine, wheel and compound instructions.
