Its 180 loose calico leaves follow gentle contours more readily than a tightly stitched wheel, while the 90mm face gives efficient coverage across larger or open workpieces.
Polishing role and suitable applications
This wheel can perform mild cutting, surface refinement, colouring and final-lustre work depending on the compound selected. Suitable applications may include aluminium, brass, copper, stainless steel, mild steel, precious metals and suitable plastics. The starting surface should already be prepared to the level appropriate for the desired finish.
Compound and polishing sequence
- Mild cutting and refining: pair with a compatible cutting or medium compound chosen for the material.
- Colouring and final lustre: use a suitable fine finishing compound with light, controlled pressure.
- Earlier preparation: remove deep scratches and grinding marks with the appropriate abrasive or firmer wheel before using loose calico.
- Contamination control: dedicate the wheel to one compound and compatible metal group.

The broad 90mm face prioritises coverage on larger surfaces. Confirm that the machine has sufficient shaft length, guard clearance and power for this wheel. Use a dedicated wheel for every compound and material group, and verify the centre, spindle or adaptor arrangement before ordering.
Machine compatibility
Use only on a compatible bench polisher, converted bench grinder or polishing machine fitted with the correct spindle, tapered adaptor, flanges and retaining system. Check shaft length, guards, clearances, rotation and the machine manufacturer’s maximum permitted wheel diameter and speed. Never exceed the rated speed of either the wheel or machine.
How to use
- Isolate the machine, inspect the wheel and mounting hardware, and secure the wheel correctly.
- Run it briefly without load while standing clear of the rotation plane.
- Charge the face sparingly with the selected compound.
- Use light, controlled pressure and continuous movement to manage heat and produce an even finish.
- Rake or dress the face when residue builds up, and stop if vibration, damage or unusual noise develops.
Safety
Wear suitable eye and face protection, hearing protection and respiratory protection where required. Use close-fitting clothing, secure long hair, remove jewellery and keep loose gloves or other snagging items away from rotating machinery. Secure small components with an appropriate holding method and follow the wheel, compound and machine instructions.
